december 16, 2008_Poster for Beethoven's Fidelio at The London Lyric Opera and something for Playboy.

november 29 , 2008_I love winter.

november 26 , 2008_A small painting for an upcoming promotional project with my colleagues over at picture mechanics. It's acrylic and watercolour, on Fabriano 300 lbs hotpress paper. I monoprinted an iridescent, interference blue into the dark tones.

I'm excited and honored to announce that I was awarded a gold medal from the Society of Illustrators, for my Book Review cover of Real World. A big thank you to everyone, especially Art Director Nicholas Blechman, without whom this never would have been made.

October 17, 2008_I spent a large part of the summer working on a series of posters for Toronto's Soulpepper theatre. It was a long and intense process, and I came out of it having learned a lot. A big thank you to Anthony Swaneveld, for great Art Direction, Thai food, and Veterinary advice. It was a real pleasure getting to collaborate with such a supportive Art Director on an extensive project like this. I had the opportunity to experiment quite a lot, which ended up being the most rewarding part of the process I think. Thanks Anthony.

For the most part, the paintings are Watercolour and Acrylic on Fabriano 300 lbs watercolour paper, with some digital colour added at the end.In no particular order, the plays are:

Antigone
The Guardsman
Civil Elegies
Parfumerie
Of The Fields, Lately
Loot
Travesties
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf
Glengarry Glen Ross

October 6, 2008_I will be out of the studio until October 13th, as Jillian and I are heading down to Florida to give a talk at Ringling College of Art and Design. We'll also be judging one of their annual student shows. A big thanks to everyone at Ringling, especially super talent Francis Vallejo, who initially invited us to come down.

September 5 , 2008_Something I finished for DC comic a while ago that was never published.

Also, bidding for the Totoro Forest Project has begun. Anyone interested in my painting, or any of the other wonderful pieces up for auction should check out the website here.

August 25, 2008_A few new pieces from the sketchbook, as well as something I finished a little while ago for Runner's World.

In other news, I will be teaching an ink drawing class at The School of Visual Arts this fall.

August 11, 2008_Although I don't usually do private commissions, I had a lot of fun working on this. Happy Birthday Robert.

Also, some shots of my studio, by the wonderfully talented Reynard Li.

July 21, 2008_I just finished a poster for an annual charity auction, benefiting the Penfield Children's Center. Some great illustrators have worked on these in the past (including, amongst others, my good friends Frank, Josh, and Jon ). I was honored to have been asked. And perhaps most importantly of all, I want to give a big thank you to Jessica Hische who custom made the wonderful lettering. Thanks Jessica.

I also did a painting for the cover of this weeks New York Times Book Review. Thanks Nicholas.

In regards to the small painting mentioned earlier, more information on The Totoro Forest Project can be found here. For those interested in bidding, I will post information about the auction as soon as it is available.

June 29, 2008_A book jacket I worked on for Penguin.

June 17, 2008_The Microvisions auction is up on Ebay. My small painting, along with nine others, will be auctioned off in support of a student scholarship. The originals are currently on display at the Society of Illustrators, here in New York. For more information check out Irene Gallo's blog. Once again, I'm so flattered to have been included amongst such a wonderfully talented group.

June 12, 2008_The fourth House of Mystery Cover.

May 16, 2008_Trent Reznor, for Rolling Stone.

May 13, 2008_Something small for Plan Sponsor.

May 9, 2008_I just finished this small painting for the annual Microvisions auction. It was great to spend the time and finish this piece entirely by hand, without any of the usual digital work after the fact. It measure 5x7 inches, and is painted in watercolour, on Fabriano 300 lbs hotpress watercolour paper. Keep your eyes on Irene Gallo's blog, where she'll be posting some of the other pieces, as well as information in regards to the actual auction itself, which I think will be taking place in June in conjunction with a show of all the original artwork. Thanks Irene.

April 29, 2008_When in doubt, add skulls.

April 7, 2008_Will be in Berlin until the 20th of April. I should be checking my E-mail fairly often, in the event that you would like to get in touch with me.

March 28, 2008_My second cover, for the new Vertigo series House of Mystery.

March 20, 2008_The last few weeks have been really busy. I've just updated the portfolio with some recent work for Spirituality and Health, The Harvard Business Review, and Plan Sponsor Magazine, as well as a new cover for The Progressive.

There's also this small drawing I just finished for The Walrus, which sort of reminds me of Astro Boy's sister. I watched a lot of Astro Boy as a kid.

In other news, I just found out that I won a gold award in Spectrum's Book Category, which is a real honor. Thank you to all the judges, and the amazing Irene Gallo, who is such a wonderful art director.

february 20, 2008_House of Mystery #1. It's always been a dream of mine to work for DC Comics, especially Vertigo.

february 18, 2008_Something new for The New York Times OpEd page. I always love getting the chance to work only with ink and brushes, there's something about the way it forces you to think and make decisions that is really thrilling. Thanks Brian and Kim.

february 5, 2008_I have a picture in this weeks New Yorker, accompanying a wonderful short story by Alice Munro.

January 29, 2008_Something recent for Cookie Magazine.

January 21, 2008_Added a small drawing from my sketchbook: St.Alia of The Knife, from the wonderful Dune, by Frank Herbert. In other news, I'll be giving a talk in conjunction with The Society of Publication Designers, along with Yuko Shimizu, Nathan Fox, and Eddie Guy. The whole event will be moderated by the amazing Marshall Arisman. You can see the poster and get more information about the event here. A big thanks to Deb Bishop for putting this all together.

January 17, 2008_New piece for Plan Advisor.

January 7, 2008_Happy New Year. Some new pictures for the fine people over at The Heart Agency: Near Death gambles for The Mariner's soul, and an albatross, respectively.

Also: Jillian and I both won gold medals this year from the Society of Illustrators, which is a big honor, and sort of a funny coincidence.
